LOCAL workers are slightly less stressed at work than the average across Britain, but that may not be too much of a consolation given that we live in ‘Burnout Britain.’

A new survey shows that more than 3 out of 4 workers in the country experiences burnout at work, at least sometimes.

Stress, lack of support and long working hours all contribute to burnout, and West Midlands is no exception.

It comes in at 7th out of 12 in the league table of burnout regions.

People in the region are putting in an additional 7.9 hours a week of overtime, but almost 6 in ten are not getting paid for the extra work they do.

The research shows the construction industry as tops for burnout potential, with long hours and high mortality rate, and the tech industry as the best for avoiding it

London is named the hardest working region while East Anglia has the best work-life balance

The impact of Covid has seen agricultural workers most affected, with an 8.1% increase in working hours, while lockdown has seen a -25.8% reduction in working hours in hospitality

But in an age where grind culture is the norm, every industry is working harder than they ever have before, increasing chances of burnout.

The top industries for potential burnout are Construction; Manufacturing; and Wholesale, retail & auto repair.

The analysis has been complied by Delamere Health Ltd, a purpose-built facility for addiction treatment.
