OLDSWINFORD Fish and Chips has battered the competition to be named winner of Stourbridge’s Best Takeaway Competition.

The popular chippy in Hagley Road, Oldswinford, received the most votes in an online poll after Stourbridge MP Suzanne Webb asked residents to nominate their favourite eatery.

Owner, Zach Ioannou, was presented with his certificate by Suzanne earlier today (Saturday) and he will be taken to lunch by her at the Palace of Westminster as his prize for winning when it is allowed.

The Conservative MP congratulated him on the win and said the chippy "is a real local institution and a business that has kept its customers fed all through the lockdowns".

She thanked all who got involved with the competition and said: “It was a bit of fun but it also had a serious message that takeaways and restaurants all over Stourbridge have given local people a little bit of normality over the last 12 months.

“We have been able to pick up the phone or go online and order our favourite food to our homes and that has been a real morale booster.”

Zach said: “We are delighted to have won this competition.

“For a local family business that has been going strong for 44 years, we too were also worried about the business when the pandemic hit.

“However, with the wonderful support from our customers and our fantastic staff, we have been able to continue to operate and provide Britain’s favourite traditional dish of fish and chips via our click and collect, delivery and walk-by service in a safe way.

“We would like to thank our customers who voted for us and look forward to serving you for many years to come."
