A NEW office has been officially opened at a busy Black Country tennis club after a keen fan of the sport served up a kind donation.

Alex Giles, from Wollaston, gave his summer house to Quarry Bank Tennis Club following a refurbishment at his home.

The 30-year-old, who was born with cerebral palsy, works for the Activity Alliance and has a MSc in sports coaching.

He loves to watch tennis in his spare time and has been a member of the Quarry Bank club all his life. He also sits on the general committee.

Steve Jasper, chairman of the club said of the donation: “Our thanks go to Alex. The office provides a warm welcome to the club and will be used as an administrative centre for the club and the Prosser Tennis Academy."

The arrival of the new office building has also been well-timed as administration duties at the club are on the up after membership numbers swelled.

Despite the challenges of the last 12 months, with the coronavirus pandemic, the club has had a particularly good year.

Membership has increased by 17 per cent, to more than 160 members, and one of the courts has been resurfaced thanks to help from the Ibstock/Enovert Trust.

Stacey Billingham, one of the head coaches at the Prosser Tennis Academy, said: "We are very busy now and coaching sessions are extremely popular.

"The office provides us with a base to manage the coaching and for us to plan our development strategies which involve partnership working with the LTA and outreach work with local schools and community groups.

"The whole club is buzzing now, we are really excited about the future and always ready to welcome new members."
