A NINE-YEAR-OLD Norton youngster has had his long flowing locks chopped off to help children with cancer.

Gig Mill Primary School pupil Mikey Cowx had a long blonde mane that was the envy of many.

But keen for a change and to help others - he has had it all cut off by his hairdresser mum Stacey and it will be donated to the Little Princess Trust which makes wigs for children who lose their hair while undergoing cancer treatment.

Stacey Cowx told the News: "He has a beautiful confidence and his own style and lots of people comment about how they love his long curly blonde hair.

"As much as he’s loved it, he wants a change for summer.

"I was cutting his brother’s hair when he decided. I’m a bit gutted, but it’s his hair. So I told him to think about it for a day and we spoke about the Little Princess Trust and how they make wigs with donated hair for poorly children. That made his mind up.

"As a hairdresser I know many people pay for what he has naturally.

"So we’re hoping he can help another child smile and have confidence as he has."
