WORK to bring the Metro to the borough is gathering pace after the first structure on the line was unveiled.
A bridge over the Walsall canal in Wednesbury has now been completed, bringing the eventual link the Metro will provide for Brierley Hill, Dudley and Sandwell a step closer.
It is hoped the line will encourage investors into the region, as well as providing easier access to the borough's tourist attractions.
West Midlands mayor, Andy Street, joined councillors and representatives from the Canal and River Trust and Midland Metro Alliance project to mark the bridge's completion.
He said: "The largest light rail extension being delivered anywhere in the UK, the Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Metro extension will be a complete game-changer for the region."Not only is it providing good quality construction jobs for local workers at a critical time, but it’ll also finally re-connect communities in Dudley and Sandwell that have been cut off from the wider transport network for far too long."
Further construction work is expected to take place this summer at the Tame Valley canal and the Old Main Line canal in Tipton.
