A BID to build homes in Kingswinford has been given the go-ahead despite a string of objections.

The proposal to knock down a bungalow next to Tesco Express on Moss Grove and build four homes in its place has been given approval by Dudley Council planners.

The detached four-bedroom homes with garages will have vehicular access from Dubarry Avenue.

They have been given approval despite eight objections from neighbours with concerns over a loss of parking, increased traffic, potential for driveways to be blocked with customers of Tesco Express using Dubarry Avenue to park in and concerns over pedestrian safety.

Other concerns over loss of privacy and overlooking and noise were also raised.

A report by council officers stated: "Many objections raise concerns about existing on street parking that occurs along this stretch of Dubarry Avenue, which is likely attributed to the nearby petrol filling station.

"Parking currently occurs in this area due to the absence of a full height kerb and is opportunistic.

"The proposed development has provided sufficient parking for residents and visitors, and therefore the loss of the existing on-street parking is not considered to be an issue.

"Additionally, traffic flow is likely to be improved by removing obstructions on the carriageway through this proposal.

"The proposed development would not cause harm to highway safety and will be acceptable in line with the conditions proposed by the Highways Officer."

In recommending the scheme to approved they stated: "The dwellings would be of an appropriate scale and design.

"All dwellings would be brick built with roof tiles.

"This would help to assimilate the new development with the existing surrounding area and would result in a good quality residential development that would sit comfortably within its surroundings."
