POUNDLAND is set to close its Stourbridge store for good this week but the company has promised to "work hard to look after" affected staff.
The discount store in The Ryemarket is closing its doors on Wednesday, company bosses told the News today.
A spokesman for the popular budget chain store said: "We're as disappointed as our colleagues and customers to be closing our store in Ryemarket shopping centre, Stourbridge, on Wednesday September 29. Sadly, our lease has expired.
“Where we close a store, it goes without saying we always work hard to look after colleagues directly affected."
Aaron Powell, centre manager at The Ryemarket, said: "We had made contact with Poundland to enter into renewal discussions, but unfortunately the decision to close had already been made by the company.
"We are already in talks with a potential new operator for this space, and in the meantime shoppers will still find other discount retailers nearby including Maxi-Saver and Home Bargains within the centre."
