WATER company bosses have issued a warning to people to avoid throwing "unflushables" down the loo to help prevent blocked sewers after sewage overflowed on a Stourbridge driveway.

A resident in Hagley Road reported sewage had spilled out of a drain on his driveway on Monday, leaving faeces, panty liners and other waste on his property and the pavement.

Bosses at Severn Trent have apologised for the distress caused and said they were sending a team out earlier today to investigate and rectify the problem.

The elderly resident, aged 74, said it was not the first time such an incident had happened and he added: "It's the only manhole for the whole area and every time it rains the cover lifts up and sewage gushes over the drive."

A spokesperson for Severn Trent said earlier today that teams had been sent out to investigate "to understand what might be causing this issue and return everything back to normal for the customer" after receiving reports of a blocked sewer pipe.

She added: "We fully understand how devastating any type of flooding can be, and we can’t apologise enough for the distress this has caused.

“We’d like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that unflushables such as wipes and sanitary items along with leftover cooking fat should never be flushed down the toilet or washed down the drain, as it can easily lead to blocked sewers. Please dispose of all fat, wipes, sanitary items, nappies and cotton buds by putting them in the bin.”
