STOURBRIDGE'S super GP surgery Lion Health will be offering booster jabs this week and this weekend to help get more jabs into arms after the Prime Minister's address on Sunday night.

The PM Boris Johnson urged adults across the UK to take up their booster vaccinations as soon as possible to help slow the spread of new Covid variant Omicron.

With the NHS vaccine booking service operating a queuing system due to ‘high demand’ - and no walk-in centres based in Stourbridge - Lion Health has sent out texts to eligible patients inviting them to book in for a booster jab at clinics being laid on at the Lowndes Road surgery this Saturday (December 18).

The surgery has also announced today that it will be offering a walk-in clinic on Wednesday December 15 between 8am and 4pm, for people who had their second Covid jab at least three months ago.

Appointments, bookable via the NHS website, are also available at the Elton Centre, off St John's Road, Stourbridge.

A walk-in clinic, where no appointment is needed, is also running at Lye's Ghausia Mosque off the High Street, which is open from 9am to 5pm on certain days.

Sally Roberts, chief nursing officer for NHS Black Country and West Birmingham Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Following the latest government guidance, we’re now working to accelerate the booster programme across the area to offer protection to as many people as quickly as possible against the Omicron variant.

“It is likely there are many more cases of this variant in the community than those confirmed by testing. This is a fast-moving form of Covid-19 which has the potential to cause a large wave of infections, and vaccination remains our best defence.

“The booster jab is proven to help people who have been double-jabbed maintain a high level of protection, which is why we need everyone to come forward and take up the offer of a booster as soon as they’re eligible – to help protect themselves and those around them."

In Dudley, 41.5 per cent of people have had a booster or third Covid-19 shot - latest NHS figures show - while 76.5 per cent of people have received two vaccine doses (and 82.9 per cent have had one dose).

To be eligible for a booster, people must have had their second dose at least three months ago.

People who have tested positive for the virus recently should wait until four weeks after the date they were tested to get a dose of the vaccine

Appointments can be booked online via the National Booking System, or by calling 119.

Walk-in appointments are also available at a number of large vaccination sites across the area including Tipton Sports Academy in Sandwell, The Saddlers Vaccination Centre in Walsall, the Cardiac Rehab Gym at City Hospital and the Mander Vaccination Centre in Wolverhampton.
