STOURBRIDGE Golf Club is moving out of Covid regulations with a new development to bring the community to the course.

The club, on Worcester Lane, has launched a new patio area which adds an extra dimension to its recently upgraded bar and dining facilities.

The opening of the patio is part of an initiative to attract non-golfers and families.

Stourbridge Golf Club's PGA professional, Mark Male, said: "We can open it up to the local community and make it a very welcoming place and get them involved.

"We would like them to join on a social membership, there will be a very good price for that, the facilities are going to be opened up more.

"The public tend to see that they can't come to these sort of places and we want to change that."

Like many organisations, the club suffered during the lockdown and the new development is a happy consequence of Covid restrictions which brought the club together.

Club captain Colin Bullock said: "We couldn't open our old patio as we felt it was too small from a health and safety point of view.

"A lot of members were having to drink outside in the car park and so we thought 'we need to resolve that'."

The club utilised the skills of its members to complete the project, from architects drawing the plans through to tradespeople laying the patio or supplying the balustrade.

Mr Bullock added: "I got a lot of members involved, it's taken us from June last year to get where we are now.

"There is nothing better on a late summer evening than having a drink and and overlooking the view.

"We have made a space at the end of the patio where the barbeque is going to go so people can come down and have a drink after work or bring the family."
