A MAN has lost everything after a fire ripped through his home in Kingswinford over the Easter weekend.

On Saturday, April 16, around 20 firefighters tackled a blaze that destroyed a 62-year-old man’s bungalow on Sandhurst Road.

The pensioner, who has recently retired, is now staying with his son Chris Parker as his home is in ruins.

Chris said his father is still in shock and is “absolutely devastated”.

“He has lost his reading glasses, medicine tablets, photographs- everything is melted,” said Chris.

“He was left with six bags of items - one bag of clothes which includes one pair of shorts, trousers and a T-shirt.

“At the moment a clean-up operation is ongoing at the bungalow and dad has been back and forth but he is just in shock and it’s not nice for anyone to see.”

As well as Chris’ father’s bungalow, two neighbouring bungalows were also affected.

The resident of one property is believed to have moved back in whilst the other is still living with relatives due to the damage.

West Midlands Fire Service has confirmed the cause of the fire was accidental and started from lithium-ion batteries on charge.

Chris says his dad brought his campervan earlier this year to enjoy his retirement after working all his life.

He has only used it once or twice and now there are questions as to whether it is salvageable.

Chris added: “He was in the garden before the fire happened, but it’s boxed off so he went to get out of the house and realised he couldn’t.

“His neighbours helped him through the fence.”

More than £1,000 has already been raised in 48 hours via a JustGiving page to buy clothes for Mr Parker.

Chris said: “Thank you to everyone and their continuous support and efforts, people have been amazing.”
