A STOURBRIDGE youngster has organised his very own version of a triathlon to raise funds to get to South Korea.

George Tombs, aged 12, a pupil at Ridgewood High School in Wollaston, is one of only 36 scouts selected to attend the 25th World Scout Jamboree in South Korea next August.

Held once every four years, the jamboree brings together around 40,000 scouts from across the world to give young people chance to experience different cultures, languages and cuisine while learning new skills.

UK Chief Scout Bear Grylls said: “After two very difficult years, it is so important that these young people have this opportunity.”

George needs to raise around £3,500 for the trip and has set up a Go Fund Me page for donations.

Part of the money will support scouts from less affluent countries to also take part.

George, who has been a member of Stourbridge Lawn Tennis and Squash Club since he was five, thought the best way to raise money would be by doing what he enjoys most.

So on Saturday May 14 he plans to play squash for two hours before completing a 10K walk around Bunkers Hill woods followed by two hours of tennis.

He is hoping people will support his efforts by making a donation or club members are invited to play him at tennis or squash on the day.
