A CHARITY that aims to make food poverty, loneliness and food waste a thing of the past is desperately seeking volunteers in Dudley.

FoodCycle, which serves up free weekly community meals using food that would otherwise have gone to waste, is opening in Dudley next month and is looking to recruit new volunteers and project leaders.

The new service will launch at St Francis’ Church on Laurel Road on May 24, offering a weekly free meal and conversation to anyone who wants to pop along on Tuesdays from 1pm.

Guests typically range from low-income families, people affected by homelessness and those who cannot afford to buy food. No questions are asked, anyone can just turn up and take a seat.

FoodCycle Midlands regional manager, Jody Beswick, said: “We are thrilled to be opening a project in Dudley. As the rising cost-of-living hits communities across the Midlands, our service is more vital than ever and we look forward to providing a welcoming space and a nutritious, three-course meal to anyone in the community who needs it, no questions asked.”

Flexible volunteer roles without a minimum time commitment are open to anyone keen to help with food collection, surplus food coordinating, cooking, hosting and running projects.
