STOURBRIDGE Navigation Trust’s popular open weekend is to return later this year for the first time since the Covid pandemic hit.

The trust has been unable to host the much-loved two-day event along the Stourbridge Arm Canal for the last two years due to the coronavirus outbreak.

But at a meeting on May 12, it was decided the event would go ahead for 2022.

Efforts will now get underway to organise the family-friendly event which will take place in Canal Street on October 15 and 16.

Announcing the news on the trust’s website, a spokesperson said: “A lot of work now needs to be done to organise the event such as contacting stallholders, boaters, exhibitors and other traders – we hope that after two years absence it will be a great success and enjoyed by the local community.”

The event, which sees the canal lined with narrowboats, usually attracts thousands of visitors.
