A MAN has been arrested after police spotted a cloned van 'linked to the theft of thousands of litres of diesel' from a Stourbridge hospital.

They spotted the "suspicious" van, which appeared to be carrying an unusually heavy load, in High Street, Pensnett, last night (Tuesday May 17).

Officers found multiple containers of diesel in the vehicle "which was linked to the theft of thousands of litres of diesel from Corbett Hospital in Stourbridge."

The driver had sped off from police and led them on a chase, driving dangerously over pavements, through red lights and smashing through a barrier onto the Fens Pool Nature reserve in Brierley Hill.

He was caught hiding in a bush and has been arrested on suspicion of theft, going equipped and dangerous driving and remains in police custody.

Police constable Jamie Follows said: "Our enquiries revealed the van was on false plates and was linked to the theft of thousands of litres of diesel from Corbett Hospital in Stourbridge.

"In the rear of the van we found a multiple barrels containing diesel and tools used in the commission of the theft.

"We arrested the driver on suspicion of dangerous driving, theft and going equipped for theft and seized the van.

"We have contacted the council to repair the damaged barrier.

"The male remains in custody at this time."
