There was absolutely brilliant news for the campaign to save greenfield spaces across the Stourbridge this week when Dudley Council planners threw out proposals to build on Clockfields in Amblecote.

The magnificent team of residents and Amblecote councillors Paul Bradley, Pete Lee and Kamran Razzaq helped ensure a planning application for three homes was rejected.

From the day I visited the site, I pledged my support to the residents, the Councillors and to green space. Keeping green spaces and having a brownfield site first policy was one of the reasons I got into politics. It is vitally important we keep Stourbridge green, protect our environment and aid the well-being of residents through well-planned development in the right places.

It was certainly a tense afternoon waiting for the decision to come in and when it did, there was relief and smiling faces all around. Well done to everyone. This is a major win.

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend is fast approaching and I know many people in Stourbridge are looking forward to celebrating at street parties and other events. I will be whizzing around some of them over the bank holiday and I hope to catch up with you.

Words cannot adequately express how I feel about our quite incredible monarch and I know the vast majority of residents feel the same. She has been this country’s rock for 70 years and the universal respect she has across the kingdom, the Commonwealth and the world speaks volume to the job she has quietly and diligently done.

It was great to see her out at public engagements again including the Chelsea Flower Show and the Windsor Horse Show. I am sure she is looking forward to the weekend where the nation will celebrate what is quite an achievement. She has slowed down a little at 96 and who can blame her. But she remains our Queen and long may she reign.

The Jubilee excitement is certainly multi-generational if my design of a card for the Queen's jubilee competition is anything to go by. There have been absolutely loads of entries and I started to judge them last Friday, so I would have the time to look at every one. The standard has been amazing and it will be tough to pick a winner.

The prize is basically brilliant. The winning design will be turned into a card to be sent straight to Her Majesty at Buckingham Palace on behalf of the people of Stourbridge as a thank you for her years of service. That will be something for the winner or winners to cherish in the years to come.
