SPORTS mad Stourbridge scout George Tombs has raised around £500 to help get him to South Korea to attend the 25th World Scout Jamboree.

The 12-year-old Ridgewood High School pupil is one of only 36 scouts selected to attend the August 2023 event which will bring together 40,000 scouts from across the world - giving them chance to experience different cultures, languages and cuisine while learning new skills.

George, however, needs to raise £3,500 for the trip of a lifetime and he had set up an online donation page.

The youngster, who has been a member of Stourbridge Lawn Tennis and Squash Club since he was five, has been thinking up ways to raise cash and he decided the best way would be to hold his own sponsored sports day.

So on May 14 dynamic George started the day with two hours of squash, then hiked 10K across Iverley, churchill and Stakenbridge – with fellow school pals and their families and dogs – before finishing off with two hours of tennis at the club.

George's dad Daniel Tombs said: "The event has raised over £500 which is totally amazing and a great help towards the £3,500 target he has. We are truly humbled by the support George has had and are very proud of him for completing this challenge.”
