A POPULAR Amblecote pub has been handed a new four-out-of-five food hygiene rating.

The Maverick, on the corner of Brettell Lane and Amblecote High Street, was given the score after assessment on April 28, the Food Standards Agency's website shows.

It means that of Dudley's 288 pubs, bars and nightclubs with ratings, 101 (35 per cent) have ratings of five and none have zero ratings.

The ratings have been published on the Food Standards Agency’s website which rates businesses from zero to five so customers can make more informed choices about where to buy and eat food.

A rating of four means hygiene standards are good.

People can see the results of all food hygiene inspections via Dudley Council’s website or on the national ratings.food.gov.uk website.

Meanwhile, today (Tuesday June 7) which is World Food Safety Day - Dudley Council’s boss for food hygiene has urged all borough businesses to focus on food safety.

Councillor Ian Bevan, Dudley's cabinet member for public health, said: "Most Dudley borough businesses practise very good food safety standards, but we continue to remind any who are not meeting their obligations that we will take swift action to keep our residents safe.

"Our inspections enable us to maintain food safety standards and businesses should be reminded that a visit from one of our inspectors can happen at any time.

"Residents who want to know how their local food shop or restaurant is performing can find out quickly and easily online with the simple food hygiene rating system."
