CAMPAIGNERS trying to save the last parcel of untouched land in Amblecote from developers who want to turn it into new homes and a public park have called a public meeting to step up their fight.

Charles Church, part of Persimmon, has drawn up extensive plans to build 90 homes on Corbett Meadow, off Vicarage Road, and create a new park for the people of Stourbridge.

The Corbett Meadow Action Group, however, says the land behind Corbett Outpatients Centre would be better used for an eco-friendly health and wellbeing centre to people outside to improve their mental health.

Plans to consult the community are now underway from the action group, backed by the Stourbridge Community Development Trust, who say their idea would be a viable alternative use for the site and it would offer financial savings for the NHS and social capital returns.

To raise awareness, a public meeting will be held at 7.30pm on Wednesday July 13 at Amblecote’s Holy Trinity Church, Vicarage Road.

A ‘Concert for Corbett Meadow’ is also taking place at Katie Fitzgerald’s Secret Garden, Enville Street, on Saturday July 16.

The event, which will raise funds to support the campaign, will feature Kim Lowings and The Greenwood, singer-songwriter and owner of Katie's Eddy Morton, Andy Jones and Black Country poet, author and radio presenter Billy Spakemon.

Eddy said: “It’s important to make our voices heard. We are continuing with our consultation to fight for this land, when it’s gone, it’s gone.”

The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust said it is required to sell the site as the NHS has a “duty to make best use of public money”.

Trust chief executive Diane Wake said money raised would be reinvested “back into patient care for the people of Dudley”.
