A CHARITY cycle ride in memory of a Stourbridge teacher who passed away from cancer has raised more than £6,000 for the hospice that cared for him in his final days.
Cyclists Rob Griffin and Richard and Matt Carroll rode from London to Paris in four days to raise funds for The Mary Stevens Hospice which cared for James Cable following his devastating terminal cancer diagnosis at the age of 34.
The trio set off on July 20 on the James Cable Memorial Ride 2022 which was organised as a tribute to Richard's son-in-law James and to raise funds for the hospice which relies on public donations.
Richard said the care provided by the hospice enabled father-of-two James, who was head of science at Pedmore High School, to spend quality last moments with his family.
The team set up an online fundraiser for the ride and to date £6,316 has been raised which will go towards funding patient care at the hospice.
Richard thanked all those who donated and cheered them on and he said: "The roads in France were brilliant for riding and we saw many beautiful villages, Château and fields of sunflowers. The view of the Eiffel Tower was lovely to see at the end of three days and almost 300 miles."
