THOUSANDS of people turned out across the Dudley borough this morning to pay their respects to the heroes of the armed forces at Remembrance Sunday events.

Dudley Council organised the borough's big parade and service at the war memorial in Ednam Road, Dudley, today (Sunday November 13).

The Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Sue Greenaway, led the event which included a parade from Top Church to the war memorial, followed by a service.

She said: "It was very moving to see so many people gathered in Dudley on this important occasion.

"While laying my wreath I was very moved to think of the sacrifices people have made over the years. I am very grateful to everyone who joined me today."

Poignant services were also held at war memorials across the borough includng in Mary Stevens Park in Stourbridge, outside Christ Church in Lye, Stevens Park in Quarry Bank, at Brierley Hill's newly restored war memorial and outside St John the Baptist Church, Halesowen.
