A KINGSWINFORD office building could be demolished to make way for apartments and houses, if plans get the go-ahead.

Hampshire House on High Street could be flattened and a three-storey block of 47 retirement living flats and three cottages built on the land.

The application to Dudley Council is from Churchill Retirement Living.

The cottages, fronting onto Water Street, would each have two bedrooms.

A design and access statement states: "Churchill Retirement Living’s vision for the site is to deliver a development that meets our customers’ needs and the local need for retirement apartments whilst contributing to the character of Kingswinford and making a positive contribution locally in terms of social, economic and environmental benefits.

"The proposal is for a retirement housing development of circa 47 one and two-bedroom apartments and associated communal facilities, vehicular access, car parking and landscaping; as well as three cottages fronting Water Street.

"Our aim is to create a high quality development that embraces sustainable design and enhances the setting of the area."

Two neighbours have already objected to the proposal, which was registered on January 16.

One, of Cottage Street, said: "Our concerns are lack of privacy - people being able to look into our house and garden.

"We have lived here for several years with complete privacy."

They go on: "The roads currently can not take the current amount of traffic - what will be done about this and safety?"

Another, of The Knoll, said: "The proposal is out of character with neighbouring bungalows."

Owners of the flats would own their homes but there would be communal areas including an owners' lounge.

There would also be a manager, a guest room which can be booked by residents for visitors and a digital ‘Careline’ support system in apartments for emergency support 24 hours a day.

The application, in the Kingswinford North and Wall Heath ward, will be considered by planners.
