A STOURBRIDGE school has celebrated the success of its sports team who have been crowned winners at this year’s Black Country School Games.

Children at The Ridge Primary School were named overall winners at the games hosted at the University of Wolverhampton’s sports campus in Walsall on June 29.

The Wollaston school romped home to victory after its rugby team went head-to-head against fellow Dudley team – Netherton CofE Primary - at the games which saw sporting pupils from the best school squads in Dudley, Walsall, Wolverhampton and Sandwell competing against each other.

Ryan Lamb, PE lead at The Ridge in Gregory Road, said: "This group of 11 exceptionally talented young people have literally blown me away with their enthusiasm, positive attitudes, commitment and determination to succeed at this wonderful sport today.

“Words cannot express how proud I am of each and every one of our team.

“This experience will stay with not only the children, but their parents, our school staff and myself for a very long time. They were truly immense, and it has been my absolute pleasure to see them grow, flourish and now dominate the Black Country.”

Deputy headteacher Jo Hadley said the winning team members came home with a gold medal as a keepsake for their achievement and she said of their win: “It's a massive achievement.”
