PLANS by a bar and restaurant company to create a first-floor terrace on a landmark Stourbridge town centre building have been withdrawn.

Dawson Bars and Restaurants based in Redditch had submitted an application to Dudley Council’s planning department to create a terraced area with screening on the rooftop of the old Pizza Express building in Stourbridge High Street.

The plan, however, has now been withdrawn, documents on the council’s planning website confirm.

Few details relating to the plan have been published on the planning portal, but drawings indicate the company had wanted to add a further storey to the building (number 74 High Street) which has lain empty since Pizza Express pulled out of the town in 2020.

Before it became a pizzeria, the building – which boasts an ornate window frontage - was home to a well-loved cake shop known as Cranages.

It is currently advertised to let on Rightmove.co.uk, marketed by Hexagon Commercial Property.
