A FIRE broke out at a scrapyard in Brierley Hill - with more than 30 firefighters battling the blaze.

Smoke could be seen from miles around after the fire started at around 10.15pm last night (Monday July 31) at the scrapyard on an industrial estate on Moor Street.

The severe fire involved a large quantity of scrap.

Seven fire engines crewed by around 35 firefighters from fire stations across the Black Country and Birmingham attended, using an aerial platform.

Access to Moor Street was limited for a period of time, but the road has now fully re-opened, with the fire now out.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service said: "The fire was confirmed to be out shortly after 9.30am.

"Two fire engines remain at the scene damping down and checking for further hotspots.

"We will be conducting re-visits throughout the day."
