A 'STOLEN' Porsche reached speeds of 70mph in a 30mph limit after failing to stop for police at the Merry Hill Shopping Centre in Brierley Hill.

One man from the car jumped into the canal in Stourbridge and one is still being sought.

Police said a 21-year-old was arrested on suspicion of burglary and driving dangerously and was in police custody today after the suspected stolen Porsche reached speeds of 70mph and damaged two cars as it sped from Merry Hill to Stourbridge ring road.

The two men were in the vehicle which failed to stop for traffic officers at around 11.30am this morning (Tuesday October 10).

The car was pursued to Stourbridge ring road before being dumped on Mill Race Lane, with the occupants running off.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "A man has been arrested after a suspected stolen Porsche failed to stop for traffic officers in Merry Hill around 11.30 this morning.

"The car was pursued to Stourbridge ring road where the occupants decamped off Mill Race Lane with one of them jumping in the canal.

"A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and dangerous driving. He remains in custody. A second man is still being sought.

"Two other cars were damaged as the vehicle reached speeds of 70mph in a 30 limit."

The force helicopter was drafted in to help with the search.
