THERE were celebrations at a Kingswinford care home to mark the milestone birthday of its oldest resident.
Lucy Vera Avis Law celebrated her 105th birthday on October 17 at New Bradley Hall in Compton Drive.
The centenarian was known to family and friends as Vera for the first 100 years of her life but when she moved to Gower Gardens care home in Halesowen in 2018 staff began calling her by her first name Lucy.
Her niece Ann Moran said: “She thought this was very funny and decided it might be nice to have a change.”
Lucy, known as Auntie Vera, was married to Harry for many years and the couple had two children Kevin and Dawn but sadly all have passed away. She has a grandson Owain who lives in Aberdeen with his wife and Lucy’s great grandchildren Gwynneth, Ailsa and David.
Lisa Jeavons, activities coordinator at New Bradley Hall, said Lucy had a “very busy day opening all her presents and was overwhelmed at the number of cards she received” on her milestone birthday.
Lisa added: “It has been a privilege for everyone here at New Bradley Hall to celebrate such a landmark birthday with Lucy and her family. Lucy is always smiling and happy, especially when Ann visits with her dog.
“Lucy now has a birthday card from the King and one from the late Queen for her 100th birthday. I bet that's quite rare.”
