ORGANISERS of Wordsley’s first ever Christmas lights switch-on say they hope to make the event an annual affair following an “amazing” evening of festive fun.

Councillor Kerry Lewis and The Friends of Wordsley Park teamed up to put on the event at Wordsley Green on Saturday December 2.

Black Country Radio kept people entertained, while businesses extended their opening hours for late night festive shopping. There were also performances by local singers including the Belle Vue Primary School choir, plus stalls selling handmade Christmas gifts and stocking fillers, and seasonal refreshments.

Hundreds of people turned out to the event to enjoy some early Christmas cheer and Cllr Lewis said: “It was an amazing night.”

She added: “This could not have happened without the hard work and dedication of the Friends group and businesses coming together.

“Residents are still talking about the event and we have received many thanks and positive feedback. We hope to make this a yearly event for Wordsley.”

Dudley South MP Mike Wood added: “Wordsley is an incredibly close-knit community so this switch-on really was the perfect chance for us all to come together and celebrate Christmas the’ Wordsley way’.

“Huge thanks have to go to Cllr Kerry Lewis and the fantastic Friends of Wordsley Park group whose hard work made the event such a success.”
