A BID to flatten a Stourbridge house and build a new home with a kitchen in the basement in its place has been given the go-ahead.

The existing house at 12, Unwin Crescent will be demolished and a "good quality" four-bedroom detached house will be constructed on the plot.

The new house will boast a basement featuring an open plan kitchen/diner and family room, utility and storeroom and an integral garage.

On the ground floor there will be two reception rooms, a toilet and a garage.

The first floor will have four bedrooms.

The house will have a hipped roof.

Notes by planners at Dudley Council stated the house's basement breached the 45-degree code with one neighbouring home, but "on balance there would be no impact to the neighbouring amenity with regards to loss of light, outlook or overshadowing."

They went on to say: "Amended plans were received during the course of the applications, amending the design and size of the dwelling to a smaller property and changed roof design."

They went on to say: "The development would be appropriate in design for the area and can be accommodated without any significant adverse impact on existing residents, or the local highway network.

"The proposal would provide a good quality development, which is considered would make a positive contribution to the area and which constitutes sustainable development."

The application, in the Wollaston and Stourbridge Town Ward, was approved on December 15.
