KIND-HEARTED fundraisers have raised more than £3,000 for a little girl in need of a heart transplant to help give her a dream stay at Disneyland Paris to look forward to when she’s on the road to recovery.

Kingswinford youngster Amelia Cadwallader is currently an inpatient at Birmingham Children’s Hospital awaiting a heart transplant.

The eight-year-old, who attends Fairhaven Primary School, has been there since October 21, including over Christmas and New Year, due to the strong medication that she’s on.

To help to give her something to look forward to, friends and relatives have rallied round to donate to a JustGiving page fundraiser set up for Amelia.

Family friend Katie Skidmore from Kingswinford set up the page and it has already topped its £3,000 target.

She said she set up the online fundraiser to “show our love and support for Amelia and family” and she added: “She’s been a strong little warrior, but this is going to be a long hard battle for her family.”

The funds are planned to give Amelia a dream stay in the Disney hotel at Disneyland Paris.

Amelia’s mom Liz Cadwallader said: “Katie’s been brilliant. Amelia loves Disneyland but we’ve never stayed in the Disney hotel. At the end of it all it would be an amazing trip to look forward to.”

She said Amelia, who was born with congenital heart disease and has undergone three open heart surgeries in her short life to date, is “very tough” and “just gets on with it” despite the circumstances.

The family have been staying by her side at the children’s hospital thanks to the Ronald McDonald House Charities which offer families of poorly youngsters a place to stay while they need hospital care.

Liz said the accommodation offered by the charity has been a huge blessing. She’s also keen to raise awareness of organ donation and how people can help to save lives by making their wishes known regarding donation.
