TWO lanes of the M5 motorway near Stourbridge were closed due to an "infrastructure defect" causing miles of congestion.
The defect was discovered earlier today (Saturday February 24) on the M5 north between junction 4 (Bromsgrove/Stourbridge) and junction 3 (Halesowen/Quinton).
The closure caused delays of up to 45 minutes with three miles of congestion reported.
It had been repaired by 2.30pm.
National Highways: West Midlands said at 1.16pm: "National Highways service providers are en route to assess and repair."
It added later: "Delays of 45 minutes on approach 3 miles congestion."
It tweeted at 2.29pm: "Emergency works are complete and all lanes are now OPEN on the M5 north between J4 (Bromsgrove) & J3 (Halesowen) following an earlier infrastructure defect.
"There are residual delays of 20 minutes in the area."
