A STOURBRIDGE teacher hopes to give her rivals a lesson in dog-showing when she takes her star Chihuahua to Crufts next week.

Rachel Berrington, aged 48, is set to head to the NEC Birmingham in March with tiny Maud – who weighs just 1.2kg.

She may be small in size, but Rachel's furry friend has already made a big impact in the dog show world and the 16-month-old pup recently appeared as Bruiser Woods in a performance of Hollywood flick Legally Blonde at Stourbridge Town Hall in September.

Rachel, who teaches IT and law at secondary school level, now believes little Maud has what it takes to make it at Crufts – the world’s biggest dog show.

She said: “She’s bonkers. She is absolutely bonkers.

“She is a tiny little dog, but she has confidence that I have never seen before.

“Typically, she will go into any situation and be totally unfazed by it.

“I often say she has a very overinflated opinion of herself. She thinks she’s amazing.

“When she’s showing, she’ll even do little pirouettes.

“She will do whatever she can to attract attention to herself.”

Rachel has attended Crufts throughout her adult life and will also be taking her Russian toy terriers Ethel and Mae to the televised event next week.

But she says she holds no expectations for her young superstar.

She said: “I never go with any expectations to any dog show.

“What’s important to me is the time I am in the ring with my dog.

“If we get placed, that’s a bonus.

“Crufts is a dog show like no other and I just go for the experience.”

Crufts, run by The Kennel Club, runs from March 7 to 10 at the NEC Birmingham.

The action and highlights will be shown on Channel 4. For further information and tickets visit http://crufts.org.uk
