STOURBRIDGE Glass Museum has been shortlisted for a major tourism award, recognising its commitment to sustainability.
The museum is among the finalists for the Regenerative Tourism Award at the West Midlands Tourism Awards 2026, which celebrates organisations that prioritise environmental regeneration and responsible tourism practices.
It has earned the nomination for its efforts to reduce its environmental impact, while preserving the region’s renowned glassmaking heritage.
Alexander Goodger, director of Stourbridge Glass Museum, said: "Being shortlisted for the Regenerative Tourism Award is a great honour and a testament to our team's relentless drive to blend heritage preservation with modern sustainability.
"From pioneering solar-powered glassmaking to community-led restoration projects and hands-on sustainable workshops, we're showing how tourism can actively regenerate places, people and the planet."
Key sustainability initiatives at the museum include the installation of solar panels, LED lighting, eco-friendly radiators and voltage optimisers as part of a wider net zero project.
A major highlight is the on-site studio operated by Allister Malcolm Glass Ltd, which is Europe’s first fully electric glass studio powered by solar energy.
This studio replaces traditional gas furnaces with renewable electric alternatives, offering a cleaner future for glassmaking and inspiring similar changes across the industry.
The museum also champions circular economy practices through workshops focused on recycled glass.
One of its artists, Terri Malcolm, contributed recycled glass to restore a surviving panel of the iconic Churchill Memorial Screen, now on display in the museum.
Additional achievements include the completion of an outdoor light installation, the launch of the Greener Glass Exhibition, a bronze Green Tourism Award, and funding secured for an eco-friendly car park.
The museum also boasts a rise to the top spot on TripAdvisor, and a successful royal opening in 2023.
Winners of the West Midlands Tourism Awards will be announced in March.
