A multi-million-pound investment plan is set to breathe new life into Stourbridge town centre.
Three million pounds has been earmarked for improvements in Stourbridge to create a safer, healthier and more attractive environment for residents and visitors.
The first phase of the project forms part of a wider vision to transform streets, public spaces, and pedestrian routes throughout the town and has been approved for submission to the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA).
Councillor Simon Phipps, Dudley Council’s cabinet member for economy and infrastructure, said: "This is a significant milestone for Stourbridge town centre as we create a safer, healthier and more attractive environment for residents, businesses and visitors.
"The proposals have been shaped by feedback from local people and businesses, who told us they wanted improvements to the town’s gateways, streets and public spaces."
The funding bid is backed by a business justification case developed by the council following consultation with residents.
If approved by the WMCA, the scheme will be delivered in phases.
The initial phase focuses on making the town more accessible for pedestrians and cyclists, with particular attention on the northern gateway at Lower High Street and Bradley Road, as well as the southern entrance at upper High Street.
Upgrades to the public realm are also planned for the High Street, Market Street, Ryemarket Square, and Foster Street to make the town centre more inviting.
Mr Phipps said: "The first phase of this investment will make it easier and safer for people to get around the town, while enhancing key areas.
"These improvements will help create a town centre that is more welcoming, accessible and ready to support future growth and investment."
Once confirmation of the funding is received, work will get underway in spring next year.
Improved pedestrian crossing points are also planned by Ryemarket Square and at Foster Street.
