A penalty shoot-out will be part of celebrations marking the return of goalposts to a community playground.

Mayor of Dudley Cllr Pete Lowe will take part in the shoot-out at Kent Road Playground in Wollaston on Friday, August 14, between 2pm and 3pm.

The event follows a successful community-led fundraiser for new goalposts, spearheaded by Councillor Andrew Tromans on behalf of the Wollaston Farm Tenants and Residents Association.

Lois Bramall, former Liberal Democrat councillor for Wollaston and Stourbridge Town, said: "It is truly amazing to see what a community can do when everyone pulls together.

"The goal posts are already being well used by Wollaston Farm residents."

Councillors Tromans, Bramall, and David Sheppard launched the crowdfunding campaign last December, raising £900 through donations and community events, including carol singing and a charity gig.

Cllr Tromans said: "First of all, I want to thank everyone who chipped in to the fundraiser, especially local businesses Pre Metro Operations and JT Foams, which made sizeable contributions.

"I am delighted that the Mayor of Dudley will be formally opening this new facility, and it will be great to see the Wollaston Farm community come together through the unifying power of sport."

Residents were consulted to decide the best location for the goalposts.

Councillor Lowe will officially open the new facility during his visit.
