Dudley council has carried out checks to ensure school transport vehicles are safe for carrying children.

The inspection, led by the council, took place at Merry Hill on September 16, and focused on vehicles used by school transport providers.

A total of 51 vehicles were checked, with drivers asked to show proof of correct licences and insurance.

Councillor Wayne Little, cabinet member for children and young people, said: "Safety of our children and young people is paramount, and we work to ensure our school transport contractors adhere to the stringent terms of our agreement.

"Yesterday we undertook a multi-agency operation at Merry Hill, where we inspected 51 vehicles and drivers were asked to present information in order to ensure licence conditions were being met."

No major faults were found, though minor advice was given to a small number of drivers.
