The Stourbridge Poppy Appeal for 2026 has been launched with hopes of surpassing last year’s total of £37,000.

Led by former MP Suzanne Webb OBE, the campaign encourages residents, businesses and community groups to get involved in supporting the Royal British Legion.

The national appeal runs from October 22 until Armistice Day on November 11, with collection stands operating daily at The Ryemarket and Tesco Crown Centre until November 7.

Ms Webb said: "When it comes to supporting our veterans, remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice and helping those who have served our country, Stourbridge really does come together, and I am proud to play my part."

More than 130 poppy collection boxes have been distributed to shops, pubs and bars, with more than 20 boxes delivered to schools.

A number of organisations and businesses are supporting the appeal, including Stourbridge Football Club, Stourbridge Rugby Club, H. Porter & Sons, Parkfield Grange, Friends of Wollescote Park, Crafting for Communities, Specsavers, The Ryemarket and Tesco.

Special events are planned throughout the appeal.

On November 6, Friends of Wollescote Park will host a 1940s-themed pop-up café from 10am to 12pm.

That evening, the appeal will also be present at Stourbridge Rugby Club’s Bonfire Night celebrations.

On November 7, volunteers will collect donations during the military vehicle parade and hand out Union Jack flags.

Cadets from Old Swinford Hospital School and the Army Cadet Force’s Stourbridge Platoon will once again play an active role in the campaign.

Ms Webb said: "It is particularly special to have young people playing such an active role in remembrance, ensuring that the sacrifices made by previous generations are never forgotten.

"Whether you buy a poppy, put a few coins in a collection tin or give an hour of your time to volunteer, you are making a difference.

"Please come along, donate and help us thank those who have given so much for our country."
