Himley Cricket Club’s hot run of form continues unabated after they crushed Knowle and Dorridge by six wickets to move up to fourth place in the Birmingham League Premier Division.

The Stourbridge Road outfit claimed their fifth win of the campaign after enduring a tough start to the season.

But ever since skipper Greg Wright held a clear the air meeting following a heavy defeat at Leamington back in May, which saw them routed to the bottom of the table, they have not looked back as they continue to go from strength to strength.

Bowling first, Himley needed only two bowlers to dismiss their hosts for only 74, with Tim Heap claiming 6-23, while Stuart Wedge picked up 4-47.

In reply, the visitors reached their target with six wickets to spare with Dan Bassett top scoring with a well made 21 not out.

Wright said: “This was a fantastic win for us.

“We said before the game that they are a team with a lot of star players but if we could get amongst them and apply pressure we were always confident we would be able to pick up the right result and so it proved.

“Tim (Heap) and Stuart (Wedge) once again bowled magnificently and were well supported by some brilliant fielding.

“I don’t think there is any doubt that at the minute they are the league’s in-form opening bowling partnership and as I have said before I wouldn’t swap them for anyone and I’m just happy they are on our side because I wouldn’t like to be facing them.”

Despite the rapid rise up the table the skipper will not be getting carried away and will just take it one game at a time starting with the visit of Walsall on Saturday (1pm kick-off).

He added: “Following the Leamington game I felt it necessary to ask a few questions of the lads and what they wanted from the season and they have responded in resounding fashion.

“But we won’t be getting carried away and we will just be taking it one game at a time starting with a tough game at home to Walsall on Saturday.

“We know if we are to get a result out of this game we will have to play out of our skins.”

The skipper is set name an unchanged side for the fixture.

Himley followed up Saturday’s impressive win with more success on Sunday as they marched in to the quarter finals of the Staffs Cup.

They comfortably beat Modershall by seven wickets with overseas star TP Singh scoring a century.

Meanwhile, things are not looking as rosey for Netherton in Division One of the Worcestershire Crusader League.

Netherton remain next to bottom after they slumped to defeat to rivals Stourbridge.

Bowling first the visitors stuck to their test well and dismissed Stour for 152, with Mitesh Patel claiming 5-52.

In reply the visitors were skittled out for just 102 with Paul Harris top scoring with 31.

This Saturday they will again be on their travels with a trip to Worcester (1.30pm start).
