MOTORISTS are continuing to leave their vehicles unattended and at risk of being stolen as they de-ice their cars on cold mornings, according to West Mercia Police.
Two vehicles have been stolen in such circumstances in North Worcestershire in recent days and with the cold snap set to continue, police are warning motorists to be extra vigilant when they warm up their cars.
Pc Stan Baker, crime risk manager, said: “Any motorist leaving their car or van unattended with the engine running on an icy morning is taking a risk.
“We know that car thieves will look out for this and won’t hesitate to jump in the vehicle and drive off with it when the opportunity presents itself.
“We want to encourage people to be extra vigilant themselves as they warm-up their cars, particularly as many insurance companies will not pay out if the keys have been left in the ignition.”
