FORMER British bobsleigh champion Alastair Rose was among those having fun in the snow in the last week.

Mr Rose, who runs Heaven gentlemen’s club in Stourbridge, represented team GB in the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo.

And still passionate about his former sport - action man Alastair took to the slopes in Mary Stevens Park, Norton, to help teach the youngsters a trick or two.

While out sledging in the picturesque Norton park, he also discovered a possible bobsleigh star of the future - five-year-old Frankie Copson from Stourbridge.

Mr Rose told the News: “Young Frankie is a sure fire bet for the 2026 Games. Stranger things have happened...I remember sledging at his age in 1964 when Nash and Dixon were winning Olympic gold for GB in bobsleigh in Innsbruck and a swift four Olympics later I was there myself.”

And to encourage snow fans to take an interest in the adrenaline-fuelled seasonal sport - Alastair has set up a Stourbridge Bobsleigh and Tobogganing Club page on Facebook, which has a grand total of 113 members...more than the number of competitive bobsleighers in the UK.

Among the illustrious members are bobsleigh champ Horst Hornlein - who won a gold medal for East Germany in Sapporo in 1972; and Stourbridge councillor Les Jones.
