STAFF at a Brierley Hill law firm were pitch perfect in their support for charity when two different events raised almost £6,000 for a good cause.

More than 350 workers from businesses across the West Midlands took part in Higgs & Sons’ annual charity football tournament at Stourbridge Rugby Club, while later on the same evening, the firm’s choir took home the spoils in a national singing competition at Southwark Cathedral.

The Waterfront Business Park-based company’s six-a-side football tournament featured 40 teams and raised more than £3,800 for their designated charity, The Alzheimer’s Society.

Ex-Wolverhampton Wanderers players Mel Eves, Dale Rudge and Jody Craddock turned out for Wolverhampton recruitment company First4Staff, in support of Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Richard Griffiths, partner, said: “We were thrilled that so many teams from local businesses and professional organisations got involved once again this year.

“With the appearance of three former Wolves players, this year’s competition was even bigger and better than ever.”

The firm also managed to raise more than £2,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society when 18 staff travelled to London and were named winners in the Legal Harmony national singing competition.

Tim Jones, co-ordinator of the firm’s Corporate Social Responsibility Programme, said: “It is fantastic that these very different events raised so much money for our charity of the year, the Alzheimer’s Society.

“Higgs & Sons’ football tournament is a fantastic community event and a real highlight in the region’s calendar and now to have our choir recognised in this way really does reflect the talent and commitment of the entire Higgs’ staff team.”
