LESS than a year after a devastating fire burnt it to the ground, Wall Heath’s popular Hickory’s Smokehouse is set to reopen this month.

Work begun on rebuilding the Kidderminster Road restaurant earlier this year after a fridge electrical fault in August put the building up in smoke.

But like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the smokehouse will be brought back to life as it opens its doors once again at 11am on Wednesday, July 26.

The new incarnation of the smokehouse is being re-built in the same spot, back in place of the historic Kingfisher Club, which in the past has played host to some of the biggest names in entertainment – including The Beatles.

The southern style restaurant proved a big hit with locals since it reinvigorated the site, with staff saying they were overwhelmed by the levels of support they received from the community.

Manager Adam Thompson said his team cannot wait to open the doors and welcome back guests, both old and new.

He said: “The support we have had from the local community since the fire has been really overwhelming and we are really excited to unveil their brand new smokehouse to them at last.

“Since the days of the Kingfisher it’s always been an important site for the local community and we are beyond excited to see it rise from the ashes and become a great local meeting point again.”

Business bosses have said the restaurant will make an impressive comeback, with the team promising an exciting new design that will take the smokehouse offering to “a whole new level”.
