LANGLEY Brass Band is getting set to celebrate its 140th anniversary with a special concert in Dudley.

The ‘Langley Prize Band’, or ‘The Langley Band’ as it is now known, has been at the heart of the communal life of the area since it was formed in 1878 by a group of local workmen – initially known as the ‘Village Band’.

But the highlight of the anniversary year for the group will be the joint concert with the world famous Brighouse and Rastrick Band – current British Brass Band Champions.

The concert will take place at Dudley Town Hall on Sunday, July 8, at 5pm.

Tickets cost £12 each (£8 for under 16s) and are available from the venue’s box office by calling 01384 812812 or online at www.boroughhalls.co.uk.

Later that month, the band will be performing their summer concerts at Oldbury Rep’s Barlow Theatre.

They will take place from 8pm on Friday, July 20, and at 7.30pm on Saturday, July 21, with tickets – costing £9 (£6 for under 16s) available by from 01384 918547.
