Remembrance services and parades announced for Oldbury and Rowley Regis

Services and parades will take place across the area on Sunday, November 11 – exactly 100 years on from the Armistice that ended the First World War.

Sandwell deputy mayor Councillor Carol Goult will attend the service in Oldbury Civic Square.

The parade meets at 10.30am at Low Town car park, with the service starting at the War Memorial in the Civic Square at around 10.50am.

Blackheath Royal British Legion, meanwhile, has organised the remembrance celebrations in Rowley Regis.

The parade will start at 10.25am from Highgate Street car park, Old Hill, and make its way to the cemetery in Powke Lane ready for the service starting at 10.45am.

Temporary road closures will be in place for the parades.

Sandwell will also be lighting a beacon on the Rowley Hills as part of a national event at 6.50pm on Sunday 11 November.

The Mayor, Councillor Joy Edis, said: "It's very important we remember the sacrifices made in the two world wars and more recent conflicts.

"This year’s services will be especially poignant as we mark the centenary of the end of the Great War.”

Councillor Steve Melia, chair of the Sandwell Armed Forces and Veterans Parades' Committee, said: “These parades and services are important as we commemorate wars from the past and show our support for our armed forces today.”

A special Festival of Remembrance service will also be held at West Bromwich Town Hall at 7.30pm on Saturday 10 November. Doors open at 6.30pm.
