A LITTER-BUSTING Halesowen pensioner is appealing for people to help her in her efforts.

Jean Green, of Quantock Close, goes out two days a week, come rain or shine, to clear up the streets.

She started her litter-picking campaign in Lutley Lane, Halesowen, earlier this year after being disgusted at the amount of rubbish and has collected more than 150 bags or rubbish.

And Jean is never off duty - even stopping her car to pick up litter if she sees it when she's out and about.

The 70-year-old retired health worker, who has been nominated for a Forging A Future For All award in recognition of her efforts, would like other people to get involved.

Mum-of-two Jean said: "I'm obsessed with litter now! If I see rubbish I will stop the car and pick it up.

"It's lovely to get out and see the beautiful views of the countryside.

"Sometimes I'll go out for a bit and hours have gone by.

"It would be great if people wanted to join me."

Jean's passion to improve the environment has been recognised by Keep Britain Tidy and she has become an ambassador for litter picking in the Halesowen area.

She will find out later this month if she has won a Forging A Future Award - the scheme is run by the Halesowen and Dudley News and Stourbridge News in partnership with Dudley Council.

Jean has also collected stolen property including car number plates, CDs, wallets, credit cards which she has handed in to the police.

Initially Jean disposed of the rubbish herself but after a chance meeting with councillor David Vickers he arranged for the council to provide bin bags and collect them when full.

Cllr Vickers said: "Jean does a tremendous job - the council would usually close down Lutley Lane for a morning to do a clean-up with volunteers, but Jean does it all on her own.

"She takes it all in her stride and does a fantastic job."

Jean also organises a Sunday club for people who are lonely to meet up for lunch.
