PROPOSALS for a block of bedsits in Halesowen have been withdrawn after complaints from residents concerned about an increase in traffic on an already dangerous road and crime.

Plans had been submitted to build a block of ten bedsits and two flats on empty land in Lyde Green.

But after a string of complaints from people living on Lyde Green - the developer withdrew its application on April 3.

Complaints centred around concerns about parking with the site being near a blind bend and it being an already busy road with a hairdressers, cafe and offices.

Plans included 16 car parking spaces.

An objector write: "It is well documented how dangerous this road can be, excessive speed from vehicles is common place and there are always ‘near misses’ and there have been several accidents, one of which, just a few year ago, involved a Dudley Council worker who was hit by a car and seriously injured through no fault of his own.

"Having looked at the plans there is a lack of sufficient parking spaces for the apartments themselves, as it is commonplace these days for householders to own two cars, and that’s not taking into account visitors to these apartments, this means that the only option would be to park on an already extremely busy and at times, congested main road.

"This side of the road is already ‘home’ to several businesses and as such, is extremely busy, adding a further 12 bedsits and flats would only increase the problems already faced by residents and road users alike.

"It is our opinion that if this development goes ahead in its current form, it will increase the likelihood of further accidents, causing serious injury at the very least."

Planning permission granted in 2015 for four dwellings at the site - but the development did not go ahead.
