A MAN has died in a motorcycle crash in Dudley.

The man, who has been named by police as Henryk Ortyl, died when the bike he was believed to be riding crashed on Duncan Edwards Way, near to Castle Gate Island during the early hours of this morning (April 7).

Police were called to the scene just before 1am, where they found Mr Ortyl, who they believe to have been the rider, and his passenger, both seriously injured.

Mr Ortyl, aged 45-years-old, died at the scene despite the best efforts of paramedics.

Police say his family have been informed and they are being supported by specialist officers.

A 20-year-old man, believed to be the passenger, was taken to hospital in Birmingham with serious injuries to his arm, where he remains this morning.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to Duncan Edwards Way in Dudley at 00:47am to reports of a collision involving a motorbike. We sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer and BASICS trauma doctor to the scene. Upon arrival we found two patients, the motorbike rider and a passenger. Unfortunately, nothing could be done to save one of the men and he was confirmed dead at the scene. The second patient, a man, was treated for injuries not believed to be life threatening before being taken on blue lights to University Hospital Birmingham for further treatment.”

Police say no other vehicle is believed to have been involved in the collision but are appealing with anyone with dash cam footage to get in touch so police can establish the cause of the crash.

Sergeant Dean Caswell from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “I am keen to hear from anyone who witnessed how the motorcycle came to be in a collision and if anyone has any dash cam footage before or after the incident, that would be really helpful too.

“We believe the motorcycle did not come into contact with any other vehicle, but we would like to work out what caused this tragic death.”

Both sides of the carriageway on Duncan Edwards Way were closed for several hours this morning, but the road has since reopened.
