THE Red House Glass Cone at Wordsley is to be lit up again tonight (Thursday) as part of the weekly ‘Clap for Carers’ movement.

Production manager Ryan Barnsley at Ian Livie.com - Concert & Corporate Lighting, who provide specialist lighting equipment for stadium events and concerts, is providing the technology in recognition of NHS and other frontline workers who are fighting the coronavirus outbreak.

The company, based next door to the cone, did a trial run at the weekend - lighting up the iconic cone in blue for an hour on Saturday between 8pm and 9pm.

Halesowen News:

Now, this Thursday at 8pm, it will be lit up in blue and green - blue for NHS workes and green for social care staff, care providers, local government staff and people in the voluntary sector.

Ryan Barnsley suggested lighting the historic cone after hearing about the ‘Clap for Carers’ movement so he enlisted help from senior lighting engineer Luke Welch, who has produced lighting shows for international stars including the Stranglers and Sigala on behalf of Ianlivie.com – Concert & Corporate Lighting.

Ryan said: "We are based next door to the Red House Glass Cone, which is well known and loved by all in Dudley borough.

"As an international company, that travels all over the world to support concerts and events, it has been strange to have so much time at home and this is our way of saying thank you to the amazing nurses, doctors and care workers for all they are doing.

"We are asking everyone to stay at home and keep safe and I hope our illuminations on the cone will remind frontline workers who might be passing after a shift that we stand with them every step of the way.

Dudley Council House and Himley Hall is also being lit up in blue and green every evening until further notice.

Councillor Ian Kettle, Dudley's cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise, said: "Iconic buildings all around the country are being lit up in blue and green in recognition of the selflessness of front line workers who are fighting to save lives and serve the people of our country.

"Now the Red House Glass Cone has joined that group by being lit up in blue and green this Thursday. I hope it will serve as reminder that we can all play our part in this crisis by staying home to save lives and protect the NHS."
