PLANS for a new care home in Oldbury have been submitted to Sandwell Council.

Denbigh Homes Ltd wants to convert a semi-detached house at 25, Brandhall Road, Oldbury, into a care home for two users and build a new care home for five residents on vacant land next to it.

The site, on the corner of Brandhall Road, is near The Plough pub on George Street.

Documents submitted by the Wolverhampton-based firm to planners state: "This application seeks to create a care home in a sustainable location that is supported by local policy.

"The application seeks to provide a very high quality of accommodation for some of the most vulnerable people in society."

They note that: "The development will give people the option of their own private space or the use of communal spaces for socialising etc.

"The site sits at a reduced level to the adjacent Plough Inn, therefore reducing overlooking and is screened by existing trees.

"Adequate external private space has been provided for the use of the residents together with the ability to access local parks and integrate into the community."

A previous application had been made and had been given conditional approval to convert 25, Brandhall Road into a care home for six residents.

The applicant states: "The application seeks to provide a far higher standard of accommodation than previously approved under application DC/17/60277 and make use of the vacant adjacent land."

They note that the site has "safe access with ample provision of car parking and is also benefit to a large range of local amenities in very close proximity" and that "the proposal has ample external space and is within walking distance of two large parks."
