The winner of Mike Wood MP's poster competition, which aims to say a big thank you to frontline NHS workers, has been confirmed.

Dudley South MP Mike invited youngsters to get creative and design a poster to say thank you to hard-working doctors, nurses, cleaners, cooks, porters and all the other staff working in the NHS for their efforts to try to keep people safe amid the coronavirus crisis.

The Conservative MP launched the competition with the Stourbridge and Dudley News to honour the efforts of frontline workers in the NHS working through the Covid-19 pandemic.

An array of eye-catching designs were submitted with five of the best put to a public vote on our websites.

A total of 5,720 votes were cast and we can now announce that the winning entry was Picture 3 (pictured) by Netherton CofE Primary schoolgirl Emily Tucker, aged eight, whose design won 46 per cent of the votes in our online ballot.

Halesowen News:

The youngster, who is set to move into year five in September, has now been presented with a framed copy of her winning design - signed by Prime Minister Boris Johnson - and she said: “I am really proud of what NHS and key workers like my mom, who works at ASDA, have done for us – and want to give them all a really big thank you."

Mr Wood congratulated Emily on "designing an epic poster thanking our NHS heroes for everything they’ve done to look after us during Covid" and he added: "Thousands of Dudley and Stourbridge News readers voted to pick their favourite and, out of so many fantastic entries, they picked Emily’s design as the one they would like to see around town.

"Now I urge everybody to cut out this excellent poster and display it with pride in your home window, at your shop, or health surgery. Let’s give our NHS workers a big thank you this summer.”

Stephanie Preece, editor of the Stourbridge and Dudley News, thanked everyone who entered the competition and said the posters "really do our key workers proud".

She said it was difficult to choose a shortlist and even more difficult for the public to choose the overall winner.

The winning poster will now be proudly displayed in GP surgeries, hospitals, shops and homes across the borough.
